Rocke Afraid of Hawk

April 23, 1953 - August 21, 2019

Rocke Afraid of Hawk was born April 23, 1953 at Cheyenne Agency, SD to Angeline Straight Head and Daniel Afraid of Hawk. He entered the Spirit World on August 21, 2019 in Bismarck, ND. He went to St. Joseph's Indian School and graduated in 1972 from Immaculate Conception High School in Stephen, SD. He attended college at Northern State in Aberdeen, SD and Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK. He attended truck driving school in Hayward, CA and worked for Standard Oil. In 1974, he married Pam Lee, to this union six children were born. Terri Jo, Rebecca, Chaske, Wanbli Numpa, Summer Rain, and Rockilynn. Rocke was a jack of all trades. He was a facility manager, truck driver, bus driver, teacher, mechanic, provider, a badass bronc rider, and avid hunter. He served on the Pte Hca Ka board and the Takini School Board. He was instrumental in bringing the buffalo to Takini. He worked for Si Tanka University and was an instructor at Oglala Lakota College teaching life skills, CDL classes, and construction. Rocke was one of the original Big Foot Riders and organizers from 1986-1990. Rocke was a humble man committed to preserving the Lakota way of life. He set an example for other people to follow. Rocke will be missed tremendously by all who loved him. He is survived by his Wife Pam Afraid of Hawk, Children Terri Jo Afraid of- Hawk, Rebecca Afraid of Hawk, Wanbli Numpa Afraid of Hawk, Summer Rain Afraid of Hawk, Rockilynn Afraid of Hawk, Steve Lee, Amy Lee, Jessica White Plume, Vic Camp, Posh Camp, Johnny Joe White Plume, Rosebud White Plume, Boogs Camp, Dallas White Plume, Hannah White Elk, Sam Tall, Joey Richards, Lance Martin, Rode Vocu, Travis Albers. Grandchildren Sierra Breeze Bobtail Bear, Jesse Rose Afraid of Hawk, Cetan Sinte Luta Bobtail Bear, Wakinyan Tokahe Win Afraid of Hawk, Inyan To Afraid of Hawk, Wamniomni Cikala Afraid of Hawk, Mahpiya Maza Afraid of Hawk, Tatanka Wakita Afraid- of Hawk, Santana Jean Feather Earring, Tusweca Wastela Afraid of Hawk, Zi Iciya Afraid of Hawk. Great Grandchildren LaRyah Jordan and Donna Albers-Walking Elk, Debra White Plume. Brothers: Alex White Plume, Rick Afraid of Hawk, John Afraid of Hawk, Fred Menard, Albert Horned Antelope, Jim Garrett, Bucky Means, Mike Jetty, Jerry Iron Cloud, Fred Dubray, and Kent Lebsock. He is preceded in death by his parents: Daniel & Angeline Afraid of Hawk Sons: Chaske Afraid of Hawk & Tanner Albers Grandson: East Lee Brothers: Gary Silk, Whiskey Two Eagle, and Rick Albers.
