Rose M. Cuny “He Sapa Glunica Wi,”62, entered the Spirit World from her home in Broomfield, Co. on Tuesday, February 17, 2015. Rose was born on December 27, 1952 to Donna Vocu-Deans and Marvin “Boy” Pourier. Rose grew up at Herd Camp in Pine Ridge with her parents, but often spent time with her grandparents Tom and Lucy (Giago) Vocu in Kyle. Rose attended Our Lady of Lourdes and Holy Rosary Schools. She graduated from high school at St. Paul’s Marty Mission in 1971. She attended college at National College of Business. Rose married Anthony Brave and brought two children, Misty and Troy, into the world. She later met and married Dennis Gutierrez. Together they had a son, Gerome. On May 13, 2000, Rose married her true love James Cuny whom she would spend the rest of her life with. Her union with James blessed them both with a total of 8 children, 18 grand-children and 3 great grand-children. Rose worked for the Native American Rights fund for 34 years. Rose is survived by her loving and devoted husband, James Cuny, of Broomfield, CO, her children Misty Brave, Rapid City, SD; Troy Brave, Broomfield,CO; Gerome Gutierrez, Broomfield,CO; step children Jeanie Cuny, Arvada, CO; Tonya Cuny, Talequah, OK; Bill Medicine Crow, Tulsa, OK; Shianne Cuny and Dakotah Cuny both of Lawrence, KS; Sisters Reeta Flammond, Denver, CO; Thomasine Pourier, Butte, AK; Brothers Marvin Pourier and Ronald Pourier; Hunka sisters Sharon Two Crow and Linda Standing; and her aunt Lorna Her Many Horses. Rose was preceded in death by her parents; step father, Alfred Deans; maternal grandparents Tom and Lucy Vocu; paternal grandparents, Ethel Pourier and Jim Red Wing; brother Rodney Pourier; mother-in-law Cecelia Irving; dear friends Mary Lu Ducheneaux and Theresa “Tess” Lebeau. A one night wake services begins at 4:00 PM, Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at the Mother Butler Center in Rapid City. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, February 25 at the Mother Butler Center and interment will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery, Rapid City.
