Dear Cheyenne River Lakota Oyate, the following is the Ariya Josephine Red Elk wake and funeral service information: Ariya Josephine Red Elk, age 5, of Cherry Creek, SD, entered the Spirit World on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Cherry Creek. She is survived by her parents, Virgil Red Elk, Sr. and Kerea Huapapi of Cherry Creek. Four brothers: Anthony Red Elk, Virgil Red Elk, Jr., Aidan Red Elk, of Cherry Creek and Jeremy Huapapi of Oglala, SD. Five sisters: Aida Red Elk, Aniya Red Elk, Aneesa Huapapi, Kaliya Huapapi of Cherry Creek and Anethia Red Elk of Wanblee, SD. Maternal Grandparents: Leslie Huapapai, Dale Sitting Up of Wanbee. Paternal Grandparents: Marion Romero of Cherry Creek and Calvin Red Elk of Wanblee. A funeral procession will begin at 4:00 PM, Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at the Cherry Creek Dam Approach and proceed to the Cherry Creek Community Gymnasium. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at the Cherry Creek Gymnasium with Fr. Brian Sorenson officiating. Burial services will take place at the Catholic Cemetery in Cherry Creek. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rooks Funeral Home of Eagle Butte, SD.
